Fear of God Athletics Debut
OTE’s newest team, Fear of God Athletics, made their OTE Arena debut on Friday night and did not disappoint, downing the reigning champion City Reapers 97-90 officially putting them on the short list of contenders for the 2025 title. Shon Abaev made his season debut for Fear of God Athletics and he made a statement finishing with a monstrous stat line of 37 points, seven rebounds and five assists as he was everywhere for his new team 👹
Abaev’s 37 points are tied for the tenth most in a game in OTE history but he wasn’t just making his impact felt on offense as he also recorded three steals and two blocks. Cayden Daughtry continues to make an impression as one of the youngest players at OTE, scoring 18 points and commanding the team's offense. To cap things off for Fear of God Athletics, KJ Francis was unconscious from deep, going 4-for-4 from three to finish his night with 20 points 👌
The City Reapers, playing without stars Meleek Thomas and Bryson Tiller, turned to Amari Evans who registered his first double-double of the season with 26 points and ten boards. Kole Grandison continued his strong start to the season, as he rounded his night with 17 points shooting an efficient 50% from the floor.
Despite a valiant fourth quarter comeback attempt, the Cold Hearts fell short, dropping the first game of Friday night to Jelly Fam 81-77 and remaining winless on the season. The Cold Hearts put together an 18-2 run in the fourth quarter to go up 75-72 but the calm heads of Jelly Fam prevailed, outsourcing the Cold Hearts 7-2 in the final minute of play. Thomas Bassong was incredible all night, leading the team in scoring with 22 points, including the go-ahead three in the closing seconds of the game 🍇
Returner Jordan Skyers was a menace all night long, putting together a stat line of 19 points, five rebounds and five assists while also snaring four steals. Mel Mel Thomas did a remarkable job of organizing the offense under the bright lights, as he dished out seven assists while scoring 12 points of his own 💡
For the Cold Hearts, Wei Zhao traded out his traditional passing role for more of a scoring burden in this one, putting up a team-high 20 points including 3-for-7 shooting from deep. Kai Rogers owned the paint all night long with 11 points and nine rebounds while also making his presence felt on defense with a game-high three blocks 🎨
