📍 Top Storyline: What did the Blue Checks do to retool their roster?
The Blue Checks were a surprise team last year, finishing in the top half of the league thanks to breakout performances from players like Josiah Parker and Kaden Magwood. The Blue Checks now find themselves in a position where they may need to pull out some surprises again, as they return just a single player from last year’s roster. Despite their immense roster turnover, the Blue Checks believe that the new talent they have brought in is enough to set them up for another surprise run this season ✅
The Blue Checks story this year starts with their lone returner, Yohance Connor. Connor had a standout first season at OTE, making up one part of the strongest scoring trio in the league alongside Kaden Magwood and Josiah Parker. Connor was averaging 19.2 PPG last year, a top ten mark in the league, before his season was cut short due to an injury. Connor returns this season better than ever and with the weight of the team on his shoulders 🏋️
Also returning this season, in a roundabout way, is Elhadji Diallo, the rangy forward with elite defensive chops. After playing his first season in the league with the Blue Checks, Diallo moved to New York to play with Jelly Fam and now he finds himself back where he started with the Blue Checks. Diallo started at forward for Jelly Fam last year and posted averages of 5.8 PPG and 6.0 RPG while also posting 1.3 BPG, the eighth highest average in the league. Diallo will man the paint this year and the defensive direction of the team will land as his responsibility 🏠
The Blue Checks had some major holes to fill and they spent their offseason finding new elite players who they believe are the solution to their problems. The most prominent signing they made was Cole Edelen who is currently slated to star at point guard for the Blue Checks. Edelen is ranked 231st in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings, and he spent the summer playing for Wildcat Select on the adidas 3SSB circuit where he established himself as one of the premiere sharpshooters in the country. In addition to Edelen, the Blue Checks also brought in two versatile wings in Abu Riak and Jeromy Davis Jr. who will serve as ideal plug and play role players for the team 🎯
Ben Betts returns for his second season at the helm of the Blue Checks after leading the team to a top-four seed in his first season as the Head Coach. Betts brings 34 years of collegiate experience to his role with the team and if there is anyone who can meld all of these new pieces into a cohesive unit it is him 👴
The Blue Checks have their work cut out for them this season but Yohance Connor and the bevy of new pieces they brought in could set them up to be the surprise team of the season. The Blue Checks schedule will be announced in the coming days so make sure to tune into the OTE social channels to keep up with the latest news 📱
