Eli Ellis Wins MVP
The YNG Dreamerz Eli Ellis was announced as the OTE MVP for the 2023-24 regular season on Wednesday afternoon, becoming just the second player in league history to take home the coveted award. Ausar Thompson is the only player to have previously taken home the honor, winning MVP the league’s first two seasons. It’s only fitting that Ellis won this year, as he is just 47 points away from breaking Ausar Thompson’s all-time record for most points in league history (804), a mark Ellis is likely to achieve in the semi-finals of the playoffs if he continues at his regular season scoring pace of 33.4 PPG 🤯
Ellis put his name all over the history books this season, breaking nearly every scoring record help at OTE, while also leading the YNG Dreamerz to the number one seed in the playoffs, making him the clear cut choice for this season’s MVP Award. Ellis led the league in PPG this season, nearly ten PPG higher than the league’s second place scorer, which is also the highest scoring average in league history. He finished out the regular season with all eight of the highest scoring games in the league, breaking the 30-point threshold in 11 out of the 16 games he played in this year 🪣
On January 6th, Ellis put together his magnum opus scoring 50 points in a win over the Blue Checks, making him the first player in league history to score half a century in a game, while also breaking his own single-game scoring record of 44 points that he set earlier in the season. Ellis followed up that performance with another 50 point bonanza just two weeks later in a victory over the Diamond Doves on January 19th, a game in which he also established the record for most field goals made in a game with 20 🔥
In a season-defining game against the City Reapers at the end of the regular season, Ellis helped lead the Dreamerz to the comeback of the year, overcoming a 19-point deficit with just six minutes remaining in the game. Ellis scored 19 of his 30 points in the final six minutes of regulation to force overtime before dishing out the game-winning assist to his little brother Isaac Ellis 🔥
On top of being the best scorer in the league, Ellis is also one of the league's elite playmakers. Ellis finished out the season with an average of 5.1 assists per game, which was the sixth best mark in the league. Ellis registered the two highest single-game assist totals in the league this season, as he reached 11 assists on two separate occasions. Ellis showed off his defensive chops as well, rounding out the year as a top-five thief, as he recorded 1.8 steals per game across the regular season 🔭
Ellis will next take the court in the semi-finals against #4 RWE, with the first game set to take place on Friday at 9PM on YouTube 🎞️
