๐ Top Storyline: Who are the new kids on the block?
After much anticipation, the newest team at OTE was finally announced on Tuesday evening to be FaZe, an elite team based out of Irving, Texas. FaZe is the ninth team at Overtime Elite and are poised to be one of the most electric teams the league has ever seen thanks to their collection of talent. Despite being the newest team at OTE, the boys of FaZe have a ton of experience playing together from AAU to high school which should have them well prepped for the rigors of the OTE season ๐ฎ
The headliner for FaZe is Marcus Spears Jr. who instantly enters the MVP conversation as one of the most dynamic players the league has to offer. Spears joins OTE as the number one ranked player in the class of 2027, according to ESPN, and he has the resume to back it up. Spears spent the summer playing for the USA U16 National Team at the U16 FIBA AmeriCup where he helped lead the team to a gold medal and was named to the All-Star Five as one of the five best players at the tournament. Spears is a rangy 6-8 forward who combines power and finesse to make him one of the most intimidating players every time he sets foot on the court ๐บ๐ธ
Complementing Spears are DaKari Spear and Seven Spurlock, who will make up a backcourt that other teams will learn to fear. Spear, not to be confused with Spears, enters the season ranked 69th in the class of 2026, according to 247Sports Composite Rankings, and is an explosive athlete at the rim while also possessing feathery shooting touch from deep. Spurlock, meanwhile, is a combo guard who is a beast at getting downhill and plays with an infectious energy that seeps into his teammates ๐ช
Former NBA star Jermaine OโNeal will serve as the Head Coach for FaZe this season and he brings professionalism and intensity to the role that is sure to set the team up for success. On top of his coaching duties with FaZe, he also coached Drive Nation on the Nike EYBL circuit this summer, a team that featured five current FaZe players ๐
FaZe has the talent to compete with anyone at OTE and have a Head Coach in place that will have the team prepared for everything they will see this season. The OTE season schedule will be announced in the coming days so make sure to stay tuned into the OTE social channels ๐๏ธ
