๐ Top Storyline: Can Mel Mel and co. push Jelly Fam to new heights?
Jelly Fam had a disappointing 2024-25 season, finishing the regular season in 7th place before falling to Fear of God Athletics in the first round. The bad news heading into this year is that they lost their lone All-OTE player in Thomas Bassong. The good news is they bring back Mel Mel Thomas, who might be even shiftier this season, while also bringing in some elite young talent ๐
Thomas enters the season as the face of the team as his ability to get to the basket at will and his flashy play style are always on full display. In August, Thomas committed to play for Saint Louis but before he heads there he hopes to push Jelly Fam to their best finish ever. Thomas had a great first season with Jelly Fam, averaging 13.9 PPG and 5.0 APG, with his assists landing as a top five mark in the league ๐ช
Quietly the most intriguing player on Jelly Fam this year and for sure the teamโs biggest X-Factor is Kevin Wheatley. Wheatley was on Jelly Famโs roster last year but missed the entire season with an injury, however, he comes into the 25-26 season as one of the most talented young players OTE has to offer. Wheatley enters the year as the 25th ranked prospect in the class of 2028, according to ESPN, and has a chance to skyrocket that ranking if he can boost Jelly Fam up the standings ๐
Jelly Fam brings in some new talent as well and each of them possess the classic NY grittiness we have come to expect from Jelly Fam players. Julian Desir is a 6-8 forward who is coming off of a season where he played and gained experience with other OTE players Anderson Diaz, Caleb Ourigou and S1 Tabe. Anthony Mauro is a tough, 6-1 guard who is best known for his playmaking on the court and he will complement Thomas nicely in the backcourt ๐ช
Head Coach Pete Wehye returns for his fourth season at OTE and his boisterous sideline personality that has endeared him to so many fans is bound to keep this year's Jelly Fam squad energetic and engaged in every contest. The Jelly Fam schedule will be released in the coming weeks so make sure to stay tuned on OTEโs social pages ๐
