The Game of the Year is set to take place on Friday night at 7 p.m. on YouTube when the YNG Dreamerz and City Reapers take battle in a rematch of the best game of the season so far. The City Reapers handed the Dreamerz their first and only loss with an 85-81 thriller of a victory that produced the best basketball the league has seen this year. Now both teams come into this matchup riding four-game winning streaks in what is a matchup between arguably the two best teams in the league ๐คฉ
OTE announced their eight candidates for the OTE MVP award last week and four of them will be taking part in this game. For the YNG Dreamerz, Eli Ellis is the clear frontrunner for MVP, which would make him the second back-to-back MVP winner, following in the footsteps of Ausar Thompson. Ellis is averaging a league-leading 32.7 points per game while also dishing out the most assists per contest at 7.3 APG. The other candidate on the Dreamerz is breakout star Kohl Rosario, who is top-ten in scoring at 17.5 PPG and has proved to be the perfect complementary piece to Ellis ๐
For the Reapers, Meleek Thomas is their leading MVP candidate and maybe the biggest challenger to Ellisโ MVP campaign. Thomas is one of just two players in the league to land in the top ten in each of PPG (27.7), APG (4.9) and RPG (8.3), as Thomas has proven to be one of the most complete players OTE has to offer. On top of those accolades, Thomas is also an elite defender, generating 2.1 steals per game, the fourth most in the league. The other MVP candidate on the Reapers is Amari Evans, who is the leagueโs premiere perimeter defender, leading the league in steals per game (2.6 SPG). In addition, Evans is averaging 16.7 PPG and 7.3 RPG, which is a top-ten mark at OTE ๐ช
The City Reapers and YNG Dreamerz are the two most storied franchises in league history as two of just three teams to be in the league for three years. The City Reapers are winners of two straight championships and have the best winning percentage in league history (77.0%). The Dreamerz are just behind the Reapers as the team with the second best winning percentage in league history as they rep a 70.9% ledger ๐
Elsewhere this weekend the Reapers are playing in another marquee matchup, as they are set to take on the hottest team in the league in RWE at 5 p.m. on Saturday. RWE are the winners of eight straight games and now find themselves in a tie for second place with the Reapers. Taylen Kinney and Jasper Johnson both landed on OTEโs list of eight MVP candidates, as both have had outstanding seasons ๐ฅ
The Diamond Doves and RWE will play in their third game this season on Friday at 9 p.m. on Prime Video, a series that has produced two tight, high octane games so far. The last game of the weekend will be played between the Diamond Doves and Fear of God Athletics at 7 p.m. on Saturday, which marks the first time these two teams will have ever played ๐
